No Buy 2023

Another one of my new years resolutions was to have “no-buy” year. I’m sure you are familiar with this trend, for ppl to make conscious effort not to spend on anything other than necessities to get their finances under control. Well, I gave it a go for 2023 and have failed quite miserably. There are untold “treats” I’ve indulged in that I certainly don’t need. I have 5 sweaters that I really like, and just yesterday, I bought another. This item will be returned, as many of my purchases are. Every time I impulsively purchase, it is failure of self-control and discipline, and these failures are keenly felt, and accumulate. I am currently in a battle-of-the-wills over a pair of cashmere gloves from Uniqlo; at $50, surely they are an investment in quality? Or the string of pearls I bought with my boyfriends money as a Christmas gift for myself. Don’t I deserve a string of pearls?

Wish List

Maybe it is the Taurus in me, that places such value on objects and luxuries; but I feel I cannot deprive myself of nice things. I have made a wish list, to monitor my desire for an object. Results here are surprising, often it is the wish list items that I later no longer want. It turns out the impulse purchases are generally more used, admired, and cared for.
